General Information about Indio Metal:
Symbol: In
Atomic Number: 49
Atomic Mass: 114.82 u
Description:
Indium metal is known as the most malleable metal, and also for not being an alkali metal. It comes with a silver-white metal base that resembles pewter. A post-transition metal, which occupies 0.21% per million of the earth's crust. It has a higher melting point than gallium and sodium, but lower than tin and lithium. In chemical form, indium is like thallium and gallium and is a creation between the two. It was first discovered in 1863 and named after the indigo blue line seen in its spectrum.
Indium metal is used in the production of low melting temperatures, mainly gallium. The melting point of the combination will depend on the indium/gallium ratio. Mainly used to replace mercury, a toxic alternative used by some applicators. In addition, indium compounds are used in the semiconductor industries for transistors, thermistors, photocells, rectifiers and germanium.
