Description:

Niobium is also known as Columbium, taking its name from Greek mythology Niobe. The daughter of Tantalus, a slightly grayish metal that is commonly found in the minerals columbite and pyrochlore. Niobium is mostly used in alloys as it can help add strength. In addition, it is added to some superalloys to help increase temperature stability.

The 33rd most abundant element found in the earth's crust, niobium is pure and soft in its natural form. The metal is extremely similar in nature to tantalum as they share these common bases; it is extremely difficult to isolate pure niobium. Commonly used in pipelines, aircraft and automobiles. Additionally, it is used in cutting tools, gas turbines, and rocket engines to help increase strength, ensure smooth collaboration, and increase temperature resistance.
